Can AIRS-400 or Vision 1000 be used as a “black box” device?

One of the main functions of AIRS-400 and Vision 1000 is to collect data that can be used in the event of an accident or incident. The recorders record to two different memory types: a removable SD card and an internal memory module. The internal memory was designed for data retrieval in the event of an accident or incident to help accident investigators quickly determine the cause.

AIRS-400 and Vision 1000 are Class C Airborne Image Recorders that are 14 CFR 135.607 compliant. ED-155 regulatory compliance is not required in most parts of the world. For full compliance, the camera needs to be paired with an external Recoverable Data Module (RDM). Most installations do not require an RDM because AIRS-400 and Vision 1000 flight data recorders are capable of surviving accidents without a second module, and it acquires and records ADRS and AIRS data.

Appareo flight recorders have survived several severe accidents and have proven valuable to accident investigators.
