One Unit. Video, Audio, and Flight Data.
AIRS-400 is a standalone airborne image and flight data recorder. A single 11 oz unit captures 4K cockpit video, crew and ATC audio, ambient audio, and WAAS GPS and inertial flight data. All of it is written to crash-hardened internal memory and a removable SD card.
Internal gyroscopes, accelerometers, and a GPS receiver eliminate the need for a separate data acquisition unit. Installation takes about one day, requires no special tools, and needs only aircraft power, ground, and a small internal GPS antenna.
Recorded flights support crew debriefs and give maintenance personnel critical troubleshooting insight.
Capabilities
Built to Capture the Full Flight Picture
4K Cockpit Video
4K (8 MP) images at 3840 x 2160 and 30 fps, H.264 encoded, with a 90° horizontal and 45° vertical field of view.
Flight Data Recording
6-axis IMU and WAAS GPS record attitude, rates of rotation, G-forces, position, speed, and altitude.
Crew & ATC Audio
Standard intercom connection records crew and ATC communications alongside ambient cockpit audio.
Crash-Hardened Memory
35 GB onboard flash stores 200 hours of IMU data, backed up to a removable SD card.
Cellular Data Offload
After landing and power-down, AIRS-400 connects over LTE-M, sends landing position and time, then uploads flight data to EnVision. No crew carrying SD cards to a workstation.
Compact & Lightweight
11 oz (310 g) and 2.8" x 3.4" x 2.6". Fits rotor and fixed-wing cockpits from UH-60s to MD-83s.

Installation
Installs in a Day. Drops In for Vision 1000.
AIRS-400 works as a standalone recorder. It requires only aircraft power and ground, plus a small GPS antenna installed inside the aircraft. A standard intercom connection is included for crew and ATC audio. No special tools are required, and a typical installation takes about one day.
Operators upgrading from Appareo's Vision 1000 keep the existing bracket mounting pattern, power connector, and GPS connector for a drop-in replacement. The new locking bracket provides a tamper-resistant installation that keeps the camera aimed where it was set.

Cellular Data Offload
Flight data reaches the FDM team right after landing, where coverage is available, with simpler maintenance and lower costs. Flight Check subscription per recorder.
Custom Data Outputs
100 Mbps Ethernet data output and RS-422 output for integration with onboard systems.
ARINC 429 Input
Record aircraft bus data alongside camera and IMU data.

Certifications & Crash Survivability
- FAA STC-AML, Part 27
- Part 23, 25, and 29 aircraft: field approval or minor modification
AIRS-400 is a Class C Airborne Image Recorder compliant with 14 CFR 135.607. Its crash-hardened memory records both ADRS and AIRS data, so most installations need no second module. Where full ED-155 compliance is required, AIRS-400 pairs with an external Recoverable Data Module (RDM).

Get More From Every AIRS-400
Three Appareo products turn AIRS-400 from a recorder into a complete flight data program.
Appareo EnVision
Cloud-based Software
EnVision analyzes every uploaded flight against event triggers set for each aircraft type or operation in the Safety Management System. Results become reports for flight briefings, accessible from any web browser.
- Event triggers configured in-house, no third-party consulting
- On-demand and scheduled reports
- Flight archive searchable by tail number, aircraft type, event, or severity
- Four subscription tiers, from a free entry level to full service
EnVision is Appareo's cloud-based FDM platform. Review flight events, drill into exceedances, and generate reports your team can act on in flight briefings.
FlightReplay
Interactive 3D flight playbackt
FlightReplay renders each flight as an interactive 3D replay in the browser, with key events and exceedances marked on the flight path. Post-flight review happens inside EnVision, with no separate analysis tool.
- Jump directly to flagged events and exceedances
- Custom graphing and adjustable playback controls
- Included for current EnVision subscribers
- Replaces AS Flight desktop software
Health Check
Automated fleet health statust
Cellular-connected AIRS-400 units upload health data after power-down, including a short video and audio clip every 24 hours. Fleet managers confirm each camera is ready for the next flight without sending a technician.
- Dashboard status with color-coded Built In Test codes
- Email alerts when a camera is not functioning properly
- Scheduled reports
- Works with the free EnVision Lite tier
