Can the Vision 1000 be used as a “black box” device?

One of the main functions of the Vision 1000 is to collect data that can be used in the event of an accident or incident. The Vision 1000 records to two different memory types: a removable SD card and an internal memory module. The internal memory was designed for data retrieval in the event of an accident or incident to help accident investigators quickly determine the cause. The Vision 1000 is not an FAA-approved flight data recorder and will not comply with a flight data recorder requirement. It also does not meet ED-112 or all of ED-155. However, the internal memory module of the Vision 1000 is ruggedized and is expected to survive most incidents and accidents. Appareo flight recorders have survived several severe accidents and have proven valuable to accident investigators.
